As a young home brew club we are still trying to find the sweet spot for what we are able to offer as a club to our members, above and beyond what non-members enjoy at open meetings. We will continue to improve on club member benefits beyond the existing ones:
Insurance
The AHA-facilitated insurance option provides participating clubs with general liability insurance ($1 million/occurrence; $3 million aggregate) and liquor liability insurance ($1 million/occurrence; $3 million aggregate) that collectively covers both club meetings and club-sponsored events for up to 1,000 attendees—all at a cost to the club of just $3.50 per club member.
Home Brew Store Discount
Located in Midvale, the Salt City Brew Supply has been a great friend and sponsor of the Lauter Day Brewers since day one. As if they aren’t awesome enough, they offer a 5% discount on all purchases to Lauter Day Brewer club members. We can tell you from experience, this perk alone is worth the price of admission and usually more than pays for the membership.
Barrel projects
One of the most fun club events is the annual/bi-annual barrel brew. The club sources a wine or bourbon barrel and we do a large group brew of about 60 gallons and age it in the barrel for anywhere from 2 – 12 months, depending on the beer.
Anniversary BBQ
We are a young club but we are a happy family and we love to celebrate each other and what an amazing adventure we are on together. Each September, to celebrate our anniversary, we rent out the pavilion at Park and have a grand BBQ for all of our club members and their families. We drink a ton of beer. From incredible home brew to rare bottle shares.
Home Brewer of the Year
We are super proud of the accomplishments of each and every one of our members. One of the best way to see the progression of brewers is through competitions. We base the annual Home Brewer of the Year award on the number of awards an individual brewer as won in a calendar year. The recipient of this award receives their name on the club trophy, which transfers between winners year after year.
Club Competition
In 2019 we hosted a club-only competition, an event we plan to continue and expand in the future.
BJCP Corner
We offer members the opportunity to receive critical feedback on their beers from members who are BJCP judges during meetings.
Off Flavor Event
We always encourage our members to pursue the art of craft beer and brewing as far as their passions take them. One of the achievements that marks this pursuit of passion is becoming a BJCP judge. One of the ways we can help as a club is by hosting an annual Off Flavor tasting event. Keep watch out for information on this year’s event date.
Commercial Examples
Another aspect of becoming BJCP certified is in-depth knowledge of styles. While we brew many different styles ourselves throughout the year, the best way to really understand a style is to taste commercial examples, which we will do at style meetings.
Refreshments
Inevitably at meetings we tend to drink a fair amount of beer and to be a responsible imbiber, it’s always wise to have snacks and water on hand.
Club Equipment
The Club currently has a pressure cooker, jockey box and two stainless steel hop spiders. These are available for any member to borrow for a week at a time using the new form.
Special Events
We try to involve ourselves as much as we can in the local craft beer community. This includes collaboration brews with local commercial breweries as well as tours and tasting events, which we open up to all our members.
We are always looking to add as much value as we can for our members. Please contact us with any ideas you may have to help enhance the experience for our members.
