Do you have a homebrewing disaster you’d like to share? One of my favorite styles to drink is Kriek. I wanted to try to make one properly, minus all the blending. I brewed the wort, pitched the Roselare strain, and waited. After a year it was tasting and smelling good so I added some tart cherry concentrate I bought at the SLC farmers market. After that fermented the beer had a a really off-putting vinyl plastic smell. I sat on it another few months and it only got worse. I eventually poured it down the drain. It was a bummer.
What is your favorite style(s) to brew? Session IPA, IPA, Farmhouse, Fruit beer.
What style(s) will you never brew? Dopplebock, or any malty lager.
What was the first beer you ever brewed? It was a Dead Ringer kit from Northern Brewer. How did it turn out? It didn’t fully ferment and was awful. I drank all of it.

Are you a BJCP Judge? If so, what is your rank and how long have you been judging? Nope
Do you have a good beer judging story you’d like to share with the rest of the homebrewing world? I’m not really excited about competition. The beers I am most excited about are outside the style guidelines.
Do you have a favorite homebrew trick or gadget that you’ve found to make your beer better/brewing easier, etc? I tricked a fellow homebrewer into filling some barrels in my basement regularly. I do very little work and drink the beer he makes. It’s a great arrangement.
Describe your brew system. I have a 5 gallon BIAB setup and a 3 vessel 10 gallon system.
How frequently do you brew (times/month or /year)? 6 times a year.
What is your favorite malt? Why? 2 Row. It’s great in everything.
What is your favorite hop? Why? Cascade. It’s the hop that made me love hops. I also love all the super juicy varietals getting all the hype right now.
Do you have a favorite or house yeast? I really like Sach Trois. It’s just as great in a hop bomb as it is in a saison.
Can you send a picture or two of some labels you’ve created for your homebrew? I don’t bottle…
What’s the most unusual ingredient you’ve ever used in a brew? Backyard Hops.
Do you have any pets or kids named after beer styles or ingredients? No
How many medals have you won from homebrew competitions? 1
Do you brew alone, with friends or with someone you live with? Generally alone.
Are you an indoor or outdoor brewer? I have always been an outdoor brewer, but I just moved into a place with a garage so I hope to somewhat indoors soon.
